6/30/2008 Add me to the list! (OneNewsNow.com)What are Catholics and Evangelicals Thinking! Catholics, who are admonished by the Pope and Church leadership that they must not vote for candidates who support abortion and the gay activist agenda including gay marriage, and Evangelicals who maintain a strong moral stance against these issues as well, are leaning to Barack Obama. Perhaps they are Catholics and Evangelicals in name only. Catholics and Evangelicals, and members of any conservative, traditional faith group for that matter, who would vote for Obama, whose views and policies are antithetical to Judeo-Christian morals and values, are not being true to their faith. This is called hypocrisy. Voting for a candidate who supports evil is to commit an act of evil.

PC is still not working properly and until it is my posts will be delayed. Hope to be back soon! 5/15/2008 McCain's dream team: Paul, Huckabee, BuffettInteresting article on how to solve tax problems, free trade, and more written by three experts in economics and political science. The final paragraph suggests this: "Our suggestion would be the choice of Huckabee as his running mate, and put in charge of tax reform; Paul could be director of management and budget in charge of finding ways to cut federal spending; and Warren Buffett could be the secretary of the treasury with instructions to implement Import Certificates to balance trade. If Sen. McCain picks this team, not only would he win the presidential election, but he would also preside over an economic boom after the election." World Governments Responsible for the Deaths of 10 Million Children Annuallyby John F. Wilhite, Ph.D.
To say that this news is depressing is an understatement. What makes it tragic beyond belief is that 10 million children dying every year is not necessary. They die from pneumonia and diarrhea, both easily and cheaply treatable.
As indicated in the report linked below, the treatments "include antibiotics that cost less than $0.30 to treat pneumonia, the top killer of children under 5, and oral re-hydration therapy — a simple solution of salt, sugar and potassium — for diarrhea, the second top killer." The article does not indicate the total cost of preventing millions of deaths per year but based on the figures stated it could hardly surpass $50 million ($5 for each child to have several doses of antibiotics and/or the hydrating solution). The top fifty nations would only have to contribute a mere one million dollars per year to avert this tragedy. The leading nations of North America and Europe spend billions daily, often on nonsense, but they fail to provide a few million a year to prevent the agonizing deaths of millions of children. We elect government leaders with the confidence that they will govern responsibly with logic, ethics, moral standards, and compassion and we expect them to strive for the common good. They do not. And we continue to vote for presidents, senators, representatives who are not guided by Judeo-Christian values placing human life and welfare, especially of innocent children, above their own self-interests and political expediency. They continue to fail at being true statesmen and public servants; they fail at their duties; they fail the people who elect them; they fail the children and others who need them. Governments are responsible for these deaths and so are we. 10 million children die from lack of health care - Kids and parenting- msnbc.com 5/6/2008 McCain courts Hispanic voters - - Breaking News, Political News & National Security News - The Washington Times
McCain's Amnesty for Illegal Aliens, Again by John F. Wilhite, Ph.D. According to reports, McCain is speaking about renewing his push for comprehensive immigration reform focusing on border security first then guest worker and path to citizenship provisions immediately after. Why does this have to be an either/or situation? Securing the border will take two or three years of a massive effort. Waiting until after that time will only exacerbate the problem. Both border security and immigration reform need to be addressed at the same time--and that time is now! ICE round-ups of a few dozen illegal aliens at places of employment is woefully inadequate when considering the millions in this country. The estimate of 12 million is an old statistic and understated; more recent and likely estimates place the number of illegal aliens at 20 million. ICE needs more personnel devoted to apprehension and deportation and the participation and collaboration of other law enforcement agencies is sorely needed. The deportation process should be streamlined as well since it takes far too much time to process individuals for deportation. The large numbers of illegal aliens incarcerated in federal and state prisons and local jails should be entered into the immigration data base and flagged as never being allowed subsequent entry into the US and they should be deported en masse. When illegal aliens are apprehended for a criminal offense they should NOT be released on bail. ICE should be contacted immediately, the individual should be positively identified in the data base and barred from subsequent entry into the US, and deported. Along with currently held prisoners and subsequently apprehended offenders, another group of illegal aliens that ICE and other law enforcement should be actively pursuing includes the unemployed criminal element. The victims of this group, often innocent American citizens, deserve greater security and protection. Raiding the homes, street corners, and other locations of gangs, drug traffickers, and similar criminals would deter crime while ridding the country of undesirable illegal aliens. Illegal aliens who are employed and have no arrest record should report to government offices (more will need to be opened temporarily for this process) to apply for a temporary worker permit. Priority should be given to those with children and then those who are married. The work permit will NOT be a path to citizenship but after a period of time, perhaps three years, the status of permanent resident alien could by earned by those who desire it and meet current regulations for that status. Permanent resident aliens who subsequently desire citizenship must fulfill existing requirements. A work permit is NOT amnesty since those who obtain it will face a double penalty for breaking our immigration laws. First, all monies they have paid to the government through employment withholding will be forfeit and those funds should be earmarked specifically for border enforcement and immigration resolution (the term "resolution" is preferred over "reform"). This system for assessing the penalty is recommended rather than a specific amount since working illegal aliens have enjoyed the privileges of work and life in the US for varying amounts of time and earnings. Second, an additional penalty should be imposed, consisting of a percentage (20% for example) of wages to be withheld from gross salary and, again, earmarked for border security and immigration resolution. This second penalty should be for a set amount of time such as two years. Those employed individuals who are granted a work permit should NOT be required to return to their home country to "wait in line" as required in some proposals for immigration reform. This stipulation is unnecessary and would cause a hardship on employers, the illegal immigrant employee and his/her family, and taxpayers. A "return home" clause in any legislation would have the end result of taxpayers footing the bill for the return trip as many granted a work permit will not be able to afford the expense. Much like the "rights" of criminals, "you have the right to an attorney, if you cannot afford an attorney one will be provided for you (the criminal, at taxpayers' expense)" a "return home" provision will result in "you must return home, if you can't afford the trip a ticket will be provided for you at taxpayers' expense." While it is unfair that those granted a work permit would jump ahead of those who pursued the immigration process legally, the balance is that the illegal immigrants would pay a heavy double penalty for this infraction. Deleting the "return home" proviso eliminates a number of burdensome and unwieldy bureaucratic and economic problems involved in the working immigrant resolution process. Finally, the "anchor baby" situation that concerns many can be addressed with a change in current immigration policy. Changing the 14th Amendment to resolve this issue is a near impossibility and is unnecessary. Current immigration policy that liberally allows foreigners to petition for an extended list of family members should be changed to allow petitions only for spouses and children under the age of eighteen. Children, then, including "anchor babies," even though they are US citizens, cannot petition for their parents. This should be allowed only to those who achieve permanent resident alien status, not those who are granted a temporary work visa. Concerning border security, in addition to fences, cameras, motion sensors, and drones, a few other possibilities should be considered. Military bases--including regular Army and Air Force and national and air national guard--should be established in border states and located in proximity to the border. The focus should be on training for land and air (helicopter and drone) border security. Active and guard duty personnel who train along our border assisting with border security patrols would then have the expertise to be used overseas as the need arises to perform border security duties such as in Iraq and Afghanistan. Further, Border Security should raise the age limit for employees to allow for experienced retired military personnel, particularly MPs and helicopter pilots. 5/2/2008 Sex Ed: We Won't Pay for Your Irresponsible BehaviorRead my comments on this issue at the link below. Hate speech legislation, the thought police, and similar efforts of activist groups are a serious situation. Read about what's happening in this regard in England and Canada (as their culture goes, so goes ours in time) and you'll get an idea of just how serious the threat to freedom of speech and freedom of conscience is. Talking about "Real Trekkie tricorder detects ailments" - LiveScience- msnbc.comThis innovation for medical science offers some inexpensive and viable solutions to health care needs in developing countries as well as rural areas of the USA. The possibilities here offer an example of the common good that can be accomplished by joint efforts of the government, science and technology, health care, and business. Rather than sending a fortune in taxpayer money as foreign aid to Third World countries that ends up in a dictator's private bank account, the US should use that money to support a venture such as this. In a recent review of the federal budget, the Republican Study Committee (a group of over 100 House Republicans who are committed to fiscal and social conservatism) has identified $1,213,902,000,000.00 (yes, over 1.2 TRILLION DOLLARS) in Congressional pork projects, which can and should be cut.
One place to start cutting is the FY06 Highway Bill. This is a bill that has more than 6,000 earmarks, worth nearly $25 billion. These “earmarks”, or special projects, include a $200 million bridge to an island in Alaska with only 50 residents. Since the island has a small airport, at $4 million per person it would be less expensive to buy each person his own airplane. But as the Congressman in whose district the island is located explained, “This is the time to take advantage of the position I’m in.” Another earmark in the Highway Bill is $2.5 million for the Blue Ridge Music Center. I would love to hear the explanation as to how funding a music center is properly a transportation expense! But you get the picture. Just a few short years ago, this bill had only 1,850 earmarks but was considered a major budget buster. Now, Congress has added more than 4,000 new earmarks, all of which could be cut without most people noticing, thereby saving $25 billion. Or how about we focus our tax dollars on helping our citizens, rather than sending it all over the world? If we were to eliminate several programs and keep our funding level in others, we would be able to save over 37.8 billion dollars over the next ten years. Do we really need to keep sending foreign aid to Egypt? Egypt has not been able to spend all of the money we have given them. They have made very little progress in economic and democratic development and have a very poor human rights record. Is this where our tax dollars should go? But there are plenty of wasteful programs here in the United States. If you or I operated a business that sold products for less than they cost, we would not be in business too long. Not so with the U.S. government. Program costs for timber sales in the National Forest System are more than twice the revenue. Let’s close this money losing business and save taxpayers $1.6 billion over ten years! Speaking of tax savings, there are a few deficiencies identified by the Republican Study Committee that need to be fixed! For example, the IRS has been depositing certain fees that it charges taxpayers into its own account, providing a nice little petty cash fund. But Congress already appropriates money to the IRS to perform its duties, so this money should properly go to the general Treasury. Requiring the IRS to deposit these fees in the Treasury would save $989 million over ten years. That $989 million pales in comparison to what the IRS wastes every year with the Earned Income Tax Credit program. According to the IRS itself, more than $8.5 billion every year should not have been paid. If Congress were simply to require better verification for participation in this program, a savings of over $85 billion over ten years would result. This should be a no-brainer: why would Congress come to you and me for more money when they can simply keep better track of their own money?
Stop Your Taxpayer Money from Going to Rebuild Casinos! In the past, government has avoided including the gambling industry in government aid programs. But the President now proposes, in his Gulf Opportunity Zone (GO Zone) package, to take that half-billion from tax payers and give it to the gambling industry. Here is the kicker: The casinos didn't even ask for the tax credits! "The casinos don't need this," said William F. Shughart II, an economist at the University of Mississippi. "If they (casinos) are [eligible], that would be a complete waste of money." Please email your Representative and ask him or her to support the effort by Rep. Frank Wolf of Virginia to strip the casino tax-credits from the GO Zone legislation. The casinos on the Mississippi Gulf Coast don’t need this windfall. They were making $5,000,000 a day before Katrina! The Republicans have been courting the gambling industry for years, and this appears to be an effort to bring that alliance even closer. Please send your email to your Representative today. Ask him or her to support Rep. Frank Wolf's proposal to strip the half-billion dollar casino tax credit from the GO Zone legislation.
