10/3/2005 E-Books Good Route for WritersAs this article indicates there is major interest in e-books, especially those that can be read on any computer as opposed to the ones that require a special hand-held reader device. More on what e-books are and are not to follow so come back. In the meantime, you can read more about e-books that you can write and that do NOT require a special format and a mini-computer hand-held reader at http://www.wilhitepublishing.com. Since it's virtually impossible to get your work considered by a print publisher or agent these days, writing an e-book is an alternative. And it's a way to get exposure that could lead to print publishing. Check it out, Dr. J-J
Oh, well, forget it!! I'm getting really sick of MSN's crappy Spaces! I've had so many glitches with this thing my frustration level is peaking. The link to the article wouldn't work no matter how much I tried. But go to the link above and at the top click on "Research" and you'll find the article I'm referring to along with several more on writing in general and writing e-books. 6/8/2005 Multimedia Travelogue E-BooksTravel writers, travelers, globe trotters with a thorough knowledge of geographic locations should consider the e-book format for a multimedia travelogue. I'm not referring to travel guides for tourists with listings of hotels, restaurants, and tourist attractions. A quality travelogue is more of a "coffee table" book with polished, informative text and an abundance of beautiful photos. Think National Geographic style. Printed travelogues present info and sights (photos). Imagine a multimedia travelogue that includes sights, sounds, and more! In an e-book you can include photos, even pop-up photos, audio clips, video clips, links to web sites with additional related info. The books can be viewed on computer without being connected to the internet because they include a reader plug-in like the Adobe Reader plug-in. Find out more at http://www.wilhitepublishing.com. In the meantime, I'll try to put some meaningful content on this space as soon as possible. I've been a little overwhelmed trying to get my web site going so that I can try to help writers create multimedia e-books and get them published. Since I've been active in writing, editing, and publishing along with my teaching duties as univ. prof. for forty years, helping authors work in the exciting format of e-books seemed like a natural thing to work on during my retirement. Teachers, especially, and many others who instruct or train or have something to share with others that lends itself to multimedia should consider e-book writing and publishing. Texts, textbook supplements, workbooks, activity books lend themselves well to multimedia e-books. Children's book writers also should consider e-books. Imagine books for kids with pop-up photos and art, audio clips, video clips and more rather than just text and art/photos as in print books! They would be so much more entertaining as well as educational. Some parents can't tear themselves away from the computer to read their toddler a book, but with an e-book they don't have to. They can put their child on their lap, open an e-book with 3-D page turning features, and enjoy it with their child. Even the poets among you should consider it. You're creative with words, so be creative with multimedia. Imagine each poem in your e-book illustrated with art or a photo. How about an audio clip with background music? Or, if you have a pleasant voice, insert audio clips of yourself reading the poems so that readers of your e-book of poetry can get the sounds and rythms that you intended. Even enhance each poem with a brief video clip! The list of possiblities is endless, I'll add more later so stay tuned and/or visit my web site--a work in progress like my wife says I am. Have a great day! Regards, John W. http://www.wilhitepublishing.com |
